THE COLLABORATIVE LAW OPTION
One of the newest options in the court system today is Collaborative Law. It is a paradigm shift of great magnitude! Instead of the typically antagonistic method of resolving dispute through the legal system, this method provides the possibility of settlement with dignity and certainly more confidentiality than the litigated methods we all know about.
In Texas, most collaboratively trained attorneys and their clients use what is called the Team Model: each client has their own attorney, and a team is built of those four people plus a Communications Coach and a Financial Professional. All six members of the Team meet several times until a settlement is reached.
What many people entering a divorce process don’t realize is that your records are open to the public if you seek a divorce in the usual method - you get an attorney, your opponent gets an attorney, and the two of you fight with each other over every decision until a settlement is reached or is assigned by a judge or jury.
The Collaborative method helps those engaged in divorce or other civil matters reach an agreement in a much more civilized manner.
